You don’t need a cupboard full of toys to keep your little one entertained.

Children under 5 thrive on exploring with their senses which include touch, sight, sound, taste, and smell. This type of play helps them understand their world, regulate their emotions, and build focus.

Here are a few easy set-ups you can try today:

  • Rice or pasta tubs: Fill a container with dry rice or pasta, add scoops and cups for endless pouring fun.

  • Water play: A bowl of water, sponges, and spoons = instant calm. Add a drop of food colouring for excitement.

  • Nature tray: Collect leaves, flowers, or sticks from the garden. Let your child touch, sort, and explore.

  • Flour or oats tray: Great for little fingers to draw shapes and patterns.

The beauty of sensory play is its simplicity. You don’t need expensive toys just everyday items and a willingness to let your child explore freely.

Tip: Keep activities short and sweet. Even 10 minutes of sensory fun can give your child (and you!) a refreshing reset in the day.
